Tertiary Care Network markets the transplant programs and the transplant teams it is affiliated with. When the network holds a contract with a transplant center for specific types of transplants through the network, it’s not merely for the benefit of the employers or insurers but that of the patients and transplant teams. As such, the network operates as an open access network defined as an employee or patient can go to any of the transplant centers it desires or may have a relationship with. The network prior to evaluation for a transplant will work with that program to secure a contractually relationship for that particular patient.

TCN’s mission is to help protect its’ client’s health plan assets by helping reduce costs for expensive tertiary services while adding value to the health plan by providing access to renown medical centers and transplant programs with superior outcomes.

Not all centers have superior outcomes. We understand that some centers are better than others, that outcomes vary and some programs have been operating longer than newer programs. This is important to us. Better outcomes mean lower overall cost. The following are criteria used in evaluating a potential program. Not all programs are eligible to participate in the network. However, because of the open access network model, patients can go anywhere and Tertiary Care will work with the employer and patient. Criteria and outcomes reviewed include:

  1. Patient Survival Rates
  2. Donor Survival Rates
  3. Average Waiting time for available organs
  4. Program Establishment
  5. Average Lengths of Stay
  6. Number of re-transplantation
  7. Medicare Certification Status
  8. Transplant Team Experience
  9. JCAHO Accreditation
  10. UNOS Participation
  11. Volumes per Service Line
  12. Geographic Location
  13. Managed Care experience

When we do contract with a program, we want potential patients to learn about the programs in the network, to become familiar with them and to have the opportunity to make informed decisions on where to receive care. Information about the programs and information on the transplant teams and physicians are available for review.
